Canning Mania

We've been canning a lot more this year than in the past couple of years.
I had kind of taken a break from it to do other things.
But, this year the apple crop is really good.
And, we're expecting a grand-baby soon.
So when asked to can baby apple sauce, it just set off an avalanche of Canning Mania.

We completely wiped out the local Walmart's supply of 4 oz canning jars.  Only available with the New caps and rings.  Really? - Pewter Color to better harmonize with Today's Kitchens?  On the up side, I'm wondering: Will the silvery color will be less likely to show the dust that accumulates on the jar tops?  Will the rust spots show up better and more obviously warn of a problem?

The "local" farmer's supply store was bought out by a regional chain a few years ago.  I was sooooo dissappointed when I went there looking for canning stuff.  The old owners had all of the most wonderful gadgets, every kind and size of jar and canner, temp sensors and peelers and mashers and juicers...  They even had stuff that I never could figure out what it was for, but it all looked so Useful.
Now, there's a 3' wide "end cap" with some Mrs. Wages spice packets, quart jars (like I don't have enough of those ! ), and the bare essential 2 sizes of 2 piece lids.  I guess everyone took off a few years from canning?
Is it because we spent so much energy canning for Y2K that we had a stockpile of food and didn't need to can anything?

So - search the internet......
I ordered tiny jars from an online company and found another online place to order 4 oz jars from.
Even with the shipping costs, it was still less per jar than what I was paying at Wally World.
